  • Visit our website at https://www.buzziapp.com, or any website of ours that links to this Privacy Notice.
  • Download and use our mobile application Buzzi, or any other application of ours that links to this Privacy Notice.
  • Use Buzzi — a student-only marketplace where verified users with a valid .edu email address can buy, sell, and sublease items and spaces within their campus community. Our platform provides secure in-app escrow payments, One-Time Password (OTP) transaction confirmations, and optional boosted listings, ensuring every transaction is as safe and transparent as possible.
  • Engage with us in other related ways, including sales, marketing, or events.

1. WHAT INFORMATION DO WE COLLECT?

Personal information you disclose to us

In Short: We collect personal information that you provide to us when using Buzzi.

We collect personal information that you voluntarily provide to us when you:

  • Register for an account on our Services.
  • Verify your student status via a .edu email or other approved method.
  • Express interest in our products or Services.
  • Participate in marketplace listings, sublease postings, or OTP-verified transactions.
  • Contact us directly for support, feedback, or partnership inquiries.

Personal Information Provided by You

The personal information we collect depends on the context of your interactions with us, your choices, and the features you use. It may include:

  • Identity & Contact Information: names, phone numbers, email addresses, mailing addresses, usernames, passwords, and contact preferences.
  • Account Verification Data: .edu email address, student verification documentation, or government-issued identification (when required for fraud prevention or high-value transactions).
  • Payment & Transaction Information: debit/credit card numbers, billing addresses, payment details, and purchase behavior linked to your account.
  • Device & Technical Identifiers: device IDs, IP addresses, and other identifiers used for security, fraud prevention, and account linking.
  • Location Data: precise or approximate location, depending on your settings.
  • Listing & Communication Content: product descriptions, images, sublease details, chat messages, and OTP confirmations exchanged during transactions.

Sensitive Information

When necessary and with your consent (or as permitted by law), we may process:

  • Student data (e.g., university affiliation, enrollment verification).
  • Financial data for payment processing and escrow releases.

Payment Data

We collect only the data necessary to process payments when you make purchases or engage in transactions. All payment data is securely handled and stored by our payment processor, Stripe. You may review their privacy policy here: https://stripe.com/privacy.

Social Media Login Data

If you choose to register or log in using an existing social media account (e.g., Facebook, X/Twitter), we will collect certain profile information from that provider, as explained in “HOW DO WE HANDLE YOUR SOCIAL LOGINS?” below.

Application Data

If you use our mobile application(s), we may also collect the following, based on your permissions:

  • Geolocation Information: We may request permission to track location-based information from your mobile device, either continuously or while the app is in use, for purposes such as showing nearby listings, verifying meet-up locations, and enhancing fraud prevention. You can change permissions in your device settings.
  • Mobile Device Access: We may request access to your camera (for uploading listing images or ID verification), microphone (for certain communication features), contacts, storage, calendar, and other features, as needed to provide core functionality.
  • Mobile Device Data: We automatically collect device details (model, operating system, app version, mobile carrier, IP address, and device identifiers) for security, troubleshooting, and analytics.
  • Push Notifications: We may send notifications regarding account activity, OTP verification requests, offers, or safety alerts. You may opt out in your device settings.

All personal information you provide must be accurate and kept up-to-date.

Information Automatically Collected

In Short: We collect certain data automatically when you access our Services.

This may include:

  • Device & Usage Data: IP address, browser type, operating system, device name, country, and information about your activity (e.g., pages viewed, listings searched, OTP actions performed, and features used).
  • Log & Performance Data: service-related logs, diagnostic information, crash reports, and system activity for security and stability monitoring.

Cookies & Tracking Technologies: small files stored on your device to help us remember your preferences, keep your session secure, and analyze activity.

Google API

Our use of Google API data will comply with the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

2. Information Collected from Other Sources

In Short: We may obtain additional information about you from trusted external sources.

These may include:

  • Public Databases & Verification Partners: to confirm student enrolment, identity, or transaction history.
  • Social Media Platforms: if you interact with us via a linked account, we may receive profile details in line with your privacy settings.
  • Marketing & Data Providers: for improving recommendations, preventing duplicate accounts, and detecting fraudulent activity.

If you log in or interact with Buzzi via social media, the data shared with us depends on your privacy settings with that platform. Please review their privacy policies for details.

In Short: We process your information to provide, improve, and manage the Buzzi platform, enable safe student-to-student transactions, facilitate OTP-verified exchanges, prevent fraud, and comply with the law.

We process your personal information for a variety of reasons, depending on your interactions with Buzzi, including:

  • Account Creation & Authentication – To register your account, verify your student status (e.g., via .edu email), authenticate your identity, and maintain account security.
  • Transaction Facilitation – To enable and process payments, escrow holds, OTP verification, and release of funds for marketplace sales and sublease agreements.
  • Sublease Management – To display, manage, and facilitate communication regarding sublease listings, including any legally required disclosures.
  • Fraud Prevention & Safety – To detect suspicious activity, prevent scams, enforce OTP usage before completing transactions, and protect users in both marketplace and sublease contexts.
  • User Support – To respond to inquiries, assist with disputes, and provide account-related help.
  • Service Communications – To send administrative notifications, such as changes to our terms, policy updates, payment confirmations, OTP requests, and transaction alerts.
  • Order Fulfilment & Refunds – To process and manage orders, cancellations, and refunds (as outlined in our Return & Refund Policy).
  • User-to-User Communication – To enable direct in-app chat, OTP exchange, and transaction coordination.
  • Feedback Requests – To gather feedback about your Buzzi experience and improve our Services.
  • Marketing & Promotions – To send promotional offers and campus-specific opportunities in line with your preferences (opt-out available at any time).
  • Personalized Recommendations – To tailor listings, suggested connections, and sublease opportunities based on your location, university, and activity.
  • Safety Alerts for Meetups – To provide reminders and recommendations for safe, in-person exchanges.
  • Research & Improvement – To analyse platform use, improve performance, and test new features.
  • Compliance & Legal Requirements – To meet legal obligations, cooperate with law enforcement requests, and defend against legal claims.
  • Anonymized Market Insights – To create reports and research datasets without identifying individual users.

3. WHEN AND WITH WHOM DO WE SHARE YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION?

In Short: We share personal information only when necessary to operate Buzzi, facilitate secure transactions, comply with legal requirements, or with your consent.

We may share your personal information with:

A. Vendors, Consultants, and Service Providers

We may share your information with trusted third parties who perform essential services for Buzzi, including:

  • Cloud Hosting – Amazon Web Services (AWS) for secure data storage.
  • Payment Processing – Stripe for payments, escrow holds, and refunds.
  • Fraud Detection – Tools and services used to monitor OTP usage, detect suspicious behavior, and prevent scams.
  • Identity & Student Verification – Services used to confirm university affiliation and verify account authenticity.

All such third parties are bound by contracts to protect your data, use it only for authorized purposes, and store it only as long as necessary.

B. Business Transfers

If Buzzi is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your personal information may be transferred as part of that transaction.

C. Google Maps Platform APIs

We may share your device’s location and relevant interaction data with Google Maps to enable location-based services such as nearby listings or meetup point suggestions. Location data is cached on your device and subject to your consent, which can be revoked at any time.

D. Business Partners

We may share information with trusted partners (e.g., university organizations, verified campus groups) for promotions or event collaborations relevant to Buzzi users.

E. Other Users

When you post a listing or sublease, certain information (e.g., your display name, university affiliation, profile image, and listing details) will be visible to other Buzzi users. In user-to-user chat, your messages, OTP exchanges, and any attachments are visible to the chat recipient(s).

F. Safety & Legal Compliance

We may disclose your information to law enforcement, government agencies, or authorized third parties when we believe it is necessary to:

  • Enforce our Terms & Conditions.
  • Investigate suspected fraud, OTP misuse, or illegal activity.
  • Respond to lawful requests or legal process.
  • Protect the rights, property, and safety of Buzzi, our users, or the public.

G. Offer Wall & External Services

If you interact with an external offer wall or third-party service via Buzzi, the information you provide to them is subject to their privacy policy, not ours.

4. WHAT IS OUR STANCE ON THIRD-PARTY WEBSITES?

In Short: We are not responsible for the safety or security of any information you share with third parties that we may link to, integrate with, or allow to advertise on the Buzzi platform, but that are not owned or controlled by Buzzi App Inc.

The Buzzi platform, including our offer wall, may contain links to third-party websites, services, or mobile applications and/or advertisements from unaffiliated third parties that link to other platforms. We do not guarantee or endorse the accuracy, safety, or legality of any content, products, or services offered by such third parties.

You acknowledge and agree that:

  • Any interaction with third-party websites or services is solely at your own risk.
  • Any personal information you provide to such third parties will be governed by their privacy policies, not this Privacy Policy.
  • Buzzi App Inc. has no control over and assumes no responsibility for the content, privacy, or security practices of these third parties.

We strongly recommend that you review the privacy and security policies of any third party before sharing personal or financial information with them.

5. DO WE USE COOKIES AND OTHER TRACKING TECHNOLOGIES?

In Short: Yes. We use cookies, beacons, and similar technologies to improve your Buzzi experience, enhance security, and personalize content.

We may use cookies and similar tracking technologies (such as web beacons and pixels) to:

  • Maintain account security and prevent fraudulent activity, including OTP misuse detection.
  • Improve app stability, fix bugs, and optimize performance.
  • Store your preferences and improve your navigation experience.
  • Personalize listings, promotions, and recommendations based on your campus, location, and activity.
  • Provide analytics to help us improve features and detect market trends.

We may also allow trusted third parties to place cookies or tracking technologies on the Buzzi platform for purposes such as:

  • Targeted advertising tailored to your interests.
  • Transactional analytics for payment completion and escrow releases.
  • Retargeting ads to remind you of items or subleases you viewed.

If, under applicable U.S. state laws, these tracking activities are deemed to be a “sale” or “sharing” of personal information, you have the right to opt out. You can exercise this right by following the process outlined in “DO UNITED STATES RESIDENTS HAVE SPECIFIC PRIVACY RIGHTS?”

6. HOW DO WE HANDLE YOUR SOCIAL LOGINS?

In Short: If you register or log in using a social media account, we may receive profile information from that platform and use it in accordance with this Privacy Policy.

The Buzzi platform offers the option to sign up or log in using your third-party social media account (e.g., Facebook, X/Twitter, Google). When you choose this method, we receive information from your social media provider such as:

  • Your name, profile picture, and email address.
  • Your verified educational institution (if provided).
  • Any public information from your social media profile that you allow us to access.

We use this information to:

  • Create or link your Buzzi account.
  • Verify your identity or student status when possible.
  • Personalize your marketplace and sublease experience.

We do not control, and are not responsible for, the ways your social media provider uses your data. We recommend reviewing their privacy policy to understand your options for managing this information.

7. HOW LONG DO WE KEEP YOUR INFORMATION?

In Short: We keep your information for as long as necessary to operate Buzzi, comply with legal obligations, and resolve disputes.

We will retain your personal information only for as long as it is necessary for the purposes outlined in this Privacy Policy, or as required by applicable law (including tax, accounting, payment dispute, fraud prevention, or regulatory requirements).

This includes:

  • Account Data: Stored for the lifetime of your account and deleted within 30 days after closure, unless retention is required for legal purposes.
  • Transaction Records & Escrow Data: Retained for a minimum of 5 years after completion or cancellation to comply with financial and fraud-prevention regulations.
  • OTP Logs & Payment Verification Data: Retained for up to 2 years for dispute resolution and fraud investigations.
  • Sublease Listings & Agreements: Retained for up to 5 years after listing expiry to comply with housing and rental law obligations.

When retention is no longer required, we will delete or anonymize your data. If deletion is not immediately possible (for example, due to archived backups), we will securely store your information and prevent further processing until deletion is possible.

8. HOW DO WE KEEP YOUR INFORMATION SAFE?

In Short: We apply strict technical and organizational safeguards to protect your personal information.

We use industry-standard encryption, secure server infrastructure, access controls, and regular security audits to protect your personal data. Measures include:

  • SSL/TLS encryption for data in transit.
  • AES-256 encryption for sensitive data at rest.
  • Role-based access controls to limit employee data access.
  • Automated fraud monitoring for suspicious OTP usage and unusual payment behaviour.

However, no system is completely secure. While we strive to protect your data, transmission of personal information to and from Buzzi is at your own risk. You should only access the Services over secure networks.

9. DO WE COLLECT INFORMATION FROM MINORS?

In Short: Buzzi is for adult students only.

We do not knowingly collect, solicit, or market to individuals under 18 years old. By using Buzzi, you confirm that you are:

  • At least 18 years of age, or
  • The parent or legal guardian of a minor and have consented to their use of the Services.

If we discover that we have collected personal data from anyone under 18 without proper consent, we will immediately deactivate their account and delete the data.

10. WHAT ARE YOUR PRIVACY RIGHTS?

In Short: You may review, change, or terminate your account at any time, and in certain jurisdictions, you have specific legal rights regarding your personal information, including data related to OTP verifications, escrow transactions, and sublease agreements.

Withdrawing Your Consent

If we rely on your consent to process your personal information — including for marketing communications, geolocation tracking, or optional account features — you may withdraw that consent at any time by contacting us using the details in “HOW CAN YOU CONTACT US ABOUT THIS NOTICE?” below.

Withdrawal will not affect the lawfulness of prior processing, and certain essential data (e.g., for fraud prevention, payment disputes, or legal compliance) may still be processed where required by law.

Opting Out of Marketing and Promotions

You can opt out of marketing communications at any time by:

  • Clicking “Unsubscribe” in our emails
  • Replying “STOP” or “UNSUBSCRIBE” to SMS messages
  • Adjusting your notification settings in the app
  • Contacting support@buzzi.app

We may still send you important service-related messages (e.g., payment confirmations, OTP requests, dispute notices) even if you opt out of marketing.

Account Information

You may request to:

  • Review or update your account details
  • Change your linked payment method
  • Remove or edit your listings
  • Close your account

To do so:

  • Log in to your Buzzi account and update your settings, or
  • Contact support@buzzi.app

Upon account closure, we will delete or anonymize your personal information, except:

  • Transaction, escrow, and OTP verification records: Retained for up to 5 years for fraud prevention, dispute resolution, and regulatory compliance.
  • Sublease agreements: Retained for up to 5 years for compliance with housing laws.

Payment dispute and chargeback records: Retained for up to 2 years.

Cookies and Tracking

You can adjust your browser or device settings to block or delete cookies. Some features (such as personalized search results or saved chats) may not work without cookies. You may also opt out of interest-based ads in Cookie Preferences in the app or website.

Special Rights for OTP & Escrow Transactions

You may request:

  • A copy of your OTP transaction log for the past 24 months
  • Review of any escrow payment records tied to your account
  • Deletion of OTP or escrow records after dispute resolution and applicable legal retention periods

DO UNITED STATES RESIDENTS HAVE SPECIFIC PRIVACY RIGHTS?

In Short: If you are a resident of the United States, certain state laws (including but not limited to the Texas Data Privacy and Security Act, the California Consumer Privacy Act, and similar state laws) may grant you rights over your personal information. These rights may include the ability to request access to and receive details about the personal information we maintain about you, correct inaccuracies, obtain a copy, delete your personal information, or withdraw your consent. These rights may be limited by applicable law.

Verification Process

We will verify your identity before processing requests. This may involve:

  • Email confirmation
  • OTP verification to your registered phone/email
  • Matching account identifiers

If you use an authorized agent, they must provide signed permission from you and proof of identity.

Appeals

If we deny your request, you may appeal by emailing support@buzzi.app with “Privacy Appeal” in the subject line. If the appeal is denied, you may contact your state attorney general.

11. DO WE MAKE UPDATES TO THIS NOTICE?

In Short: Yes, we will update this notice as necessary to remain compliant with applicable laws and to reflect any changes in our Services.

We may update this Privacy Notice from time to time. The updated version will be indicated by a revised “Last Updated” date at the top of this Privacy Notice. If we make material changes to this Privacy Notice, we may notify you by:

  • Posting a prominent notice on our website or in the Buzzi mobile application, or
  • Sending you a direct notification via email or in-app message.
